If you are not familiar with the work of Nick Cave and you live in the Northwest US you might want to make plans to visit the Seattle Art Museum. The show, Nick Cave: Meet Me at the Center of the Earth, runs from March 10 - June 5, features Cave's Soundsuits.

The museum website says about the show,"Nick Cave tailors suits that are sculpture, clothing characters that spring out of his imagination. Stately guardians preside in shaggy, day-glow pink hair, polar bears wear sweaters that stik out in humorous places; and dancers adorned with white beaded filigree crowns. Suits like this have never been seen before. Partly this is due to his choice of improbable materials - buttons, plastic tabs, hot pads, metal flowers, sandwich bags, spinning tops and crochted doilies - which are used to make visually fierce and impeccably detailed suits. Multiple media installations remind us of the desire for these wearable sculptures to move and perform."

I love this man's work and I think you will as well!

  1. I visited Seattle for the first time this past August and was fortunate to see two of his pieces in SAM's permanent collection wich I posted to my blog. I'm with you... I love his work and it is captivating to see up close! Wish I could return for this :)

  2. Lucky you! I would love to see his work in person. I'm putting that on my wish list. Thank you Valerie for commenting.

  3. I've been a fan of Nick Cave since his Robave days. I purchased a Nick Cave handpainted scarf for my husband in 1994 that still gets pulled out for special occassions.

Hmmm. I must have some excuse for going to Seattle..This looks fantastic.

    Thanks for sharing Terry!

  4. Lucky You! Now neat to have that scarf. A nice treasure.

I feel confident you will remember that meeting you need to attend in Seattle. xo, T
